Alexa Becerra is currently a senior at Central High School. She plans to attend Laramie County Community College and play soccer for LCCC for two years, later transfer to the University of Wyoming where she wants to major in either Social Work or Elementary Education. Alexa’s parents are her motivators and inspiration for furthering her education because of all the sacrifices they have made for her and her two younger sisters. Alexa is extremely proud of her Hispanic heritage, and as a young Latina, she hopes to always strive for the best and to accomplish all her goals. Alexa will be the first in her family to pursue a college degree.

Esmeralda Chacon graduated from South High School in 2016 and is currently attending Laramie County Community College. Her parents are Alex and Fidelia Chacon. She plans to major in Biology and then later attend medical school. She is thankful for all the continued support from her friends and family on her educational journey.

Japheth Frauendienst is a student at the University of Wyoming, who will begin his sophomore year in the fall of 2017. Japheth is a double major in Environment and Natural Resources as well as, Environmental Systems Science with a minor in Sustainability. Japheth’s involvement with the university government through his freshman year culminated to him earning the position to solely represent the College of Environment and Natural Resources, next year as a Senator on ASUW Student Government. He is deeply committed to serving on Recognized Student Organizations such as 7220 Entertainment, Sustainability Club, ASUW Government, and Student Outreach and Policy. Japheth is always actively looking for ways to spend his time in furthering his education and helping others, as well as his community.

Daniel Garcia is a current student at Laramie County Community College where he just finished his first year. He is majoring in Business and Finance, and Construction Management. He is also a 2017 recipient of the Wyoming Congressional Award. Daniel is aspiring to transfer to the University of Wyoming, where he plans to get a degree in architecture. Daniel has always enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and give back to his community. His parents are Lolo and Patricia Garcia, and he has a younger brother named David.

Dayton Jimenez is graduating from South High School where is has been involved in Community Day. He has enhanced his feelings toward college by becoming a mentor for underclassmen and sharing his experiences with them. He will be attending the University of Wyoming and majoring in Civil engineering. He is the son of Jessica Gonzales. (photo not available)

Tyler Lucero is a senior at Central High School. He is going to attend the University of Wyoming this Fall and major in Finance. He is an avid fisherman, skier, and loves to snow machine. He is currently a Meals on Wheels Driver and a Road to Recovery Driver for the American Cancer Society. He is planning on continuing both of these services in the future

Sydney Montoya plans on playing volleyball and attending LCCC in the fall of 2017. She hopes to triple major, getting degrees in Interior Design, Business Management, and Instructional Coaching. Sydney hopes to open a small business in New York eventually, and live out her dream!

Troy Moore is a graduating senior at East High School. He has been involved in marching band, jazz band, tennis, AVID and Mariachi 307. He wants to help young Hispanics go to college. He plans on going to the University of Wyoming to major in secondary education to become a history teacher and minor in music. He has lettered in 3 years of band and 2 years of varsity tennis. He would like to thank his mother Shirley and his dad Michael for helping him in pursuing his dream of becoming a history teacher.

Junuenth Morales is the daughter of Leticia Morales. Junuenth ran cross country, outdoor track, and indoor track throughout high school. She is enrolled inthe IB program. This hard working Latina is also in the Congressional Award andrecently received the bronze and silver medal, now she is on her way to earning her gold medal. Junuenth will be attending the University of Wyoming this fall in the hope of becoming a lawyer.

Patrick O’Hare is a senior, currently attending Cheyenne Central high school. He will start the path to attaining a business finance degree this fall at the University of Wyoming. As an Eagle Scout Patrick is involved in his community, over the past five years, he has accumulated over 700 hours of community service. Patrick is very thankful for his friends and family that have inspired and helped him along his path to graduating high school, and he hopes that they will also be by his side during college graduation.

Catalina Pedroza is a sophomore at Casper College transferring to the University of Wyoming for her bachelors in education. At Casper College, she was involved in many clubs and organizations. Such as a Casper College Ambassador, Student Senator, involved in the Casper College music program, Phi Theta Kappa honors society, and the Honors Program. When she completes her bachelor's, she will be applying for the Peace Corps where she will be able to spend two years abroad in a Latin American country. When she comes back, she will want to teach a few years before striving for her Master’s degree in Counseling. She has always dreamed of working with students in the classroom and watching them grow as individuals. She hopes to gives students many opportunities to find their passions and make monumental achievements.

Allen Pino is currently a senior at the University of Wyoming. He is majoring in Communication with a minor in Marketing. He is currently an assistant coach at East High school for the Speech and Debate team. He travels all over the state and the nation with the team. His goal is to help others find their voice. After he graduates, he hopes to help the community that has helped him become the person he is today.

Connor Redman recently finished his freshman year at Laramie County Community College, Albany campus in Laramie. Connor is planning to major in Social Work. He earned a 3.75 GPAhis firstyear in school. Connor's parents are Scott and Ann Redman, and he has a younger brother named Grant. Connor will play baseball for CheyennePost 6 this summer. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is very appreciative and humbled to be a recipient of the HOPE scholarship.

Amada Simental is attending the University of Wyoming, majoring in Economics with a minor in Mathematics. She would like to study abroad in Latin America or Europe. Amada is very thankful and excited for what lies ahead. She is especially thankful for the support of her parents and friends.

Isaiah Tafoya was born and raised in Cheyenne. He grew up on the South Side of Cheyenne and graduated from South High School in 2015. He just finished his fourth semester at Laramie County Community College, earning a 3.0 GPA for the Spring 2017 Semester. Isaiah is studying Exercise Science with plans to obtain a Bachelor's Degree to become a Strength and Conditioning Coach. Outside of academics, Isaiah has been boxing for 11 years and currently competes in local, regional, and national competitions. He plans to turn professional in the sport of boxing in the future but wants to earn his Bachelor's degree first. He will finish up his Associate's Degree in the Fall of 2017.

Lincoln Trujillo, son of Jocelyn Trujillo, graduated from Western Nebraska Community College with AS, will continue my education at University of Jamestown in North Dakota to get my bachelor's in physical therapy and continue on to get a master's in physical therapy.

Desirae Vigil is graduating from South High School and attending Laramie County Community College and majoring in phycology and social work. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been a volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club. She is the daughter of Philip & Yvonne Vigil. (photo not available)

Tanner Weekly will be graduating in May 2017 from Cheyenne East High School. Tanner was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He has accepted a partial scholarship to play baseball at Doane University, a private school in Crete, Nebraska. He is considering majoring in Education in History or Social Sciences. Tanner participated in the “We the People” competition. This contest is an extension of his AP U.S. Government and Politics class. He led the team in earning the honor of “Award of Merit” for an outstanding unit at the State competition. He also attended the Washington D.C. Close-Up political education program. Tanner has been in baseball for 13 years. In addition to the local team, he has played with a national organization called Baseball Factory, playing in various teams with players from around the United States in various showcase tournaments in Arizona and Florida.

Dr. Cecilia "CiCi" Aragón

Cecilia Aragón (CiCi), is originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance and Latina/o Studies Program at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. Dr. Aragón is Director of Latina/o Studies Program, and serves as coordinator for Theatre Education and Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) in the Department of Theatre and Dance at UW. ;She is a Faculty Affiliate in Gender and Women’s Studies.  Aragón served as the Past-President of the Women and Theatre Program of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE). She was recently appointed to the National Endowment for the Arts national review board.

Dr. Aragón received a B.S. in Education from McMurry University, an M.F.A. in Theatre and Dance from the University of New Mexico, and a Ph.D. in Theatre from Arizona State University.  Her scholarly articles and research areas include Latina/o Theatre, Indigenous Performances of the Americas, and Theatre Education.  She is currently working on her book titled, Performing the Myths of Billy the Kid-El Bilito,“El querido,”—Cultural Politics in Folk Songs, Folk Celebrations, and Contemporary Dramas, for the University of New Mexico Press. Aragon was recently awarded the Jason Thompson Diversity Award, for promoting community engagement and social justice at UW.  Aragon serves as past-president of Women and Theatre Program.  She was recently appointed to the National Endowment for the Arts national review board in Washington, D.C.

Danielle Aldana is at the University of Wyoming in the Education program.  She has a year and a half left and intends on doing her student teaching the year of 2018.  Danielle will graduate in May of 2018.  She plans to stay in the State of Wyoming to teach and give back to the community.

Angel Antunez is a graduating senior at South High School. He has been involved in many clubs such as Skills USA, FBLA, DECA, Safe School Ambassadors and other programs like Mayor's Youth Council and Youth Alternatives.  His parents are Mario and Rosa Antunez and he has 3 siblings ages 19, 15 and 10.  Angel is planning to attend Laramie County Community College and hopes to obtain a degree in Business Finance.  He eventually wants to be an entrepreneur.

Nicolas Chavez is a junior at the University of Wyoming. Over the next academic year Nicolas will be studying abroad in Mexico. At the University of Wyoming he is majoring in Physiology and minoring in Spanish in hopes to pursue a career in medicine or healthcare. His parents are Nicole and Victor Chavez.

Richard Cruz is a senior currently attending the University of Wyoming.  He is majoring in Criminal Justice to become a Secret Service Federal Agent.  With many things in his life to push him to succeed, all of which he has a high and equal value to, one of the things is his family. Even though he knows they are already proud of him because of the accomplishments he has achieved over the years, such as serving in the National Guard, spending two tours, one in Kuwait and one in Qatar, and being accomplished in soccer, baseball, golf, and football in both high school and college, he still always wants to make them even more proud. This summer he will be doing an internship with the Highway Patrol starting in June. He will also be attending training in Guernsey where he will instruct aircrew member essential skills on how to survive on land and water. He looks forward to continuing his educational career with the goal of becoming a Federal Agent.

Anthony Farmer is a senior at the University of Wyoming.  He is pursuing dual degrees in Economics and Political Science.  He has been involved in ASUW student government, the UW Honors Program, Golden Key International Honors Society, UW Multicultural Affairs, and the UW chapter of Mortar Board.  His parents are Brian Farmer and Rachel Martinez, and he has 2 little sisters.  This past fall he interned in Washington, DC for Senator Enzi.  He is attending the University of Glasgow, in Scotland this fall, and has been accepted into a concurrent Master’s degree program within UW's Political Science department.  He hopes to work in the public sector, in the areas of government budgeting, tax reform, or electoral reform.

Isabela Farmer is a 2016 graduate of Central High.  She will be attending the University of Wyoming in the fall to study Nutritional Science. Isabela has been involved in music and theatre throughout her high school career. She was recently awarded the National School Choral Award for outstanding student in choral music, has been selected multiple years for All Northwest Choir and All State Choir. She will also be competing in a National theatre competition this summer.

Japheth Frauendienst is a senior at East High school.  He plays competitive baseball for the Cheyenne Mustangs and enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, and climbing Colorado 14ers. His parents are Joe and Elsa Frauendienst, and he has 2 siblings ages 16 and 21. Japheth will be attending the University of Wyoming this fall and will be majoring in Natural Resource Systems to later become a Water Resource specialist.

Daniel Garcia is a graduating senior at East High School. He has been involved in Skills USA, DECA, Football, Indoor and Outdoor track and also the International Baccalaureate program. His parents are Lolo and Patricia Garcia, and he has a younger sibling who is 15. He is planning to attend Laramie County Community College and later attending the University of Wyoming where he hopes to obtain a degree in Business and Finance.  Daniel eventually wants to be a business owner and a political figure in his community.

Jorge Garcia is a graduating senior from Pine Bluffs High School. He has been involved in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track for the past four years. He has been recognized as an All-State athlete and was the 2015 2A Cross Country champion. He will attend Gillette College in the fall to pursue a degree in secondary education and be a part of their cross country program.  Jorge thanks his parents for surrounding him with the Spanish language; Jorge eventually plans to become a Spanish teacher so he has the opportunity to share the language and culture with others.

Annissa Ibarra is a fourth semester nursing student at LCCC and an outreach student attending UW.  Her goal is to obtain her Bachelors of Science in nursing and continue on for her Masters.  She is originally from Texas but currently resides in Wyoming with her husband, who is in the military, and their two dogs. Annissa is the third of four children to continue on for a higher education. In the future she plans to offer scholarship money to our future students as the HOPE scholarship has done for her.

Elisia Kohute is a continuing college student. She works for Cheyenne Regional Medical Center as a CNA.  She got accepted into the LCCC Nursing Program and will begin classes in the fall.  She will continue with her education at The University of Wyoming for her Bachelor's degree.

Dixon Maggard is a pre-med physiology major at the University of Wyoming and just completed his junior year. He has aspirations to go on to ophthalmology school to become an Ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgeries.  Dixon has already made a big step in that direction by being a part of shadowing programs in Kentucky and Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Carly Ortiz just finished her first year of college at LCCC.  She is in the process of receiving her degree in Criminal Justice.  After college, Carly plans to become a probation officer for the State of Wyoming.  Carly says that she wouldn't be able to accomplish this without the support of her family and friends. 

Karen Caraveo Perez ‘s parents are Jaime Caraveo and Yoly Perez.  She has two siblings ages 8 and 21.  She graduated from South High School last year and just finished her freshman year at Laramie County Community College.   Karen hopes to obtain a degree in Criminal Justice and become a lawyer.   She is thankful to be chosen as a HOPE Scholarship recipient.

Connor Redman is a graduating senior at East High School. He has been involved in East High football, G-team as well as currently playing baseball for Cheyenne Post 6. His parents are Scott and Ann Redman. He has a younger brother named Grant who is 14 years old.  In the Fall, Connor is planning to attend Laramie County Community College in Laramie, WY.  He hopes to obtain a degree in Education and someday become a teacher. 

Dominic Sanchez is a graduating senior at Central High School.  He has been involved in FBLA, Basketball, Track, and DECA.  His parents are Chris Sanchez and Marci Sanchez, and he has 2 siblings ages 1 and 11.  He loves the outdoors and enjoys camping, fishing, and hunting.  Dominic says that his family always comes first and they are the most important thing in his life.  He is planning to attend LCCC and study pre-pharmacy, eventually transferring to UW to obtain a Pharmacy degree.  Dominic wants to be a Pharmacist.

Isaiah Tafoya was a graduate of South High School in 2015 and has lived on the South Side of Cheyenne his whole life.  He is known in his community for his boxing accomplishments.  Isaiah now attends Laramie County Community College.  He is a current member of the Cheyenne Boxing Club and recently won the Rocky Mountain Regional Golden Gloves in April.  He will be competing in the National Golden Gloves this month.  Isaiah's parents are Domonic and Rachelle Tafoya and he has a 10-year old sister named Angelina.  Isaiah is planning to take courses at LCCC in the summer and in the fall of 2016, and is studying Exercise Science.  He made the President's Honor Roll at LCCC.  Isaiah hopes to earn his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and become a strength and conditioning coach.  He also wants to continue his boxing career while earning his degree.

Preston Thurin was a freshman at Laramie County Community College this past year.   He will be attending Chadron State College in the fall majoring in Special Education. He will also be playing football for the CSC Eagles.   Preston would like to teach school in a rural area where he can make a difference in kids' lives.       He would like to remain in the area so he can continue to help on the family farm in the summers.

Brooke White is a junior currently attending the University of Wyoming. She is majoring in International Studies and Political Science. She is involved with various clubs on campus and also works part time at the University of Wyoming Police Department. Brooke will be taking advantage of the University’s exchange program by studying abroad for the next year in Strasbourg, France. She hopes to improve her language skills and knowledge regarding European politics while living abroad. Brooke wants to thank her family for their continuous love and support.  This is Brooke’s 3rd year as a HOPE Scholarship recipient.

2015 Key Note Luncheon Speaker

Captain Anthony C. Munoz

Anthony was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on December 14, 1982.  He grew up on the south side of Cheyenne from humble beginnings, the son of Cynthia and Arthur Martinez.  He was raised in a Mexican-American household, engrained in morals and values revolving around the Catholic Church.  He attended Hebard Elementary School and Johnson Jr. High where he served as the Student Council President, and Student Body President, during his 6th and 9th grade years, respectively.  He then went on to attend Cheyenne Central High School where he participated and served in various clubs and organizations to include: The University of Wyoming High School Institute (HSI), Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA), Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), Wrestling, Improve Drama Club, and Student Council; serving as Senior Class President.  Anthony graduated from Central High School in 2001.  That same year, he was awarded a Hispanic Organization for Progress and Education scholarship and was named the H.O.P.E King (Rey) of Ceremonies.

Not long after he graduated from high school, Anthony decided to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and serve his country through military service.  He joined the Wyoming Air National Guard in June of 2003, enlisting as an Air Transportation apprentice.  In July of 2004, he graduated from both basic training and follow on training at the Air Transportation School located at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX.  During his tenure as a member of the 153d Aerial Port Flight, he trained at several bases both in the continental US as well as abroad.  He served in Qatar as a on a deployment with the 153d APF and earned an Air Force Commendation Medal for his exemplary performance.

Anthony began his college education at Laramie County Community College, earning an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration in 2006.  A first-generation college student, in 2009 he earned his Baccalaureate of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Wyoming.   In that same year, and after earning the rank of technical sergeant, he was selected as a commissioned officer candidate with the WYANG. 

In 2010 he earned his commission through the Academy of Military Science at Maxwell AFB, GA and attained the rank of First Lieutenant.  Later, he completed his follow on training as a Logistics Readiness Officer again at Lackland AFB.  In February of 2012 he deployed for a second time, destined for Kuwait as an LRO assigned to the Air Transportation Flight of the Logistics Readiness Squadron.  During the deployment, then Lieutenant Munoz earned a Squadron CGO of the month award as well as a first oak leaf cluster of the Air Force Commendation Medal for his outstanding performance as the OIC for the Passenger Services section of the Aerial Port Flight.  Additionally, he has also been awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal,  the Meritorious Unit Award ribbon, the AF Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon,  the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the AF Overseas Ribbon Short, the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border, the AF Longevity Service Ribbon, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (Rifle), the Air Force Training Ribbon and the Wyoming National Guard Achievement Ribbon.

Most recently Anthony was promoted to the rank of Captain with the Wyoming Air National Guard.  He is a full-time federal technician at the Wyoming Military Department, Joint Force Headquarters, and works as the Labor Relations Specialist in the Human Resources Office.  He was recently competed for and was recognized as Wyoming Air National Guard Company Grade Officer of the Year for 2014.  He currently lives in Cheyenne with his three children, Julianna, Layla and Cruz. Lastly, Anthony serves his community by volunteering with various organizations and groups to include:   Habitat for Humanity, Cross-Eyed Designs children’s face painting, COMEA Shelter of Cheyenne and Cheyenne Junior League Baseball.  He also serves on the Board of Governors for the Wyoming National Guard Association as the Company Grade Officer Representative for Air and on the Wyoming National Guard Joint Diversity Executive Council as an Air Officer Representative.

Danielle Aldana is going to be a junior this fall of 2015 and will be attending the University of Wyoming for the Education Program.  She graduated this May of 2015 from Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas, with an Associates of Arts.  Her plan is to get her Bachelor’s degree in the next two years and start teaching in Cheyenne after that.  She has always wanted to be a teacher.  Danielle says, “I love to be around kids and help them learn.”  Her plan is to teach 3rd grade. Teaching is a passion Danielle has always had and she loves giving back to the great State of Wyoming.

Millie Chavarria is 20 years old and just completed her second year at Laramie County Community College.  She has been accepted into the Radiography program and is pursuing a degree in radiation therapy.  Millie considers herself a very dedicated, determined, responsible young adult with high expectations.  She is the first in her family to pursue a higher education and plans to set a good example for others to follow.  Millie says, “It is a big responsibility but with the support from my family I believe I can do it.”

Nicolas Chavez is a sophomore currently attending the University of Wyoming. He is majoring in Physiology with the goal to have a career in medicine. Nicolas says his family is a huge factor in pushing him to succeed.  They are his biggest supporters and critics, keeping him honest, humble and hardworking. This is his 2nd year as a HOPE Scholarship recipient.

Richard Cruz is a junior currently attending the University of Wyoming.  He is majoring in Criminal Justice to become a Secret Service Federal Agent.  With many things in his life to push him to succeed, all of which he has a high and equal value to, one of the things is his family.  Even though he knows they are already proud of him because of the accomplishments he has achieved over the years, such as serving in the National Guard, spending a tour in Kuwait, and being accomplished in soccer, baseball, golf, and football in both high school and college, he still always wants to make them even more proud. Just this past March he returned from Al Udeid Qatar; his second deployment. While waiting to start the 2015 fall semester back up, he was sent to the Air Force SERE Water Survival School in Florida, along with SERE Combat Survival in Washington State, where he learned essential skills on how to survive on land and water. He has one more big trip this summer to attend to for the Air Guard in Tucson, AZ, where he will participate in a joint forces Search and Rescue training exercise. Once completed, he looks forward to continuing his educational career with the goal of becoming a federal agent.

Maria Debroy is a senior at Cheyenne East High School. She moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 2011 at the age of 14 from Central America, due to this she knows what it is like to experience a huge cultural difference and due to her experience in Central America, she knows what it is like to struggle financially for a good elementary and secondary education. Even through the struggles, it was her mom that had the stronger perseverance and dedication to put her through a good education, which makes her Maria’s role model.  She plans to attend the University of Wyoming and later Colorado State University to become a veterinarian and along the way she plans to go on internships abroad to experience more culture.

Anthony Farmer is a freshman maintaining a 4.0 GPA at the University of Wyoming with a major in Economics.  Anthony wishes to have a positive impact on the society that has allowed him such vast levels of prosperity and joy.  What pushes him is the need to help others and to be a catalyst towards a mutually beneficial community of achievers.  Anthony says his Hispanic heritage has distinguished him and helped him develop a proud sense of identity and character.   He hopes to soon intern for one of the Wyoming senators, and he hopes to pursue a career in public policy.

Reina Flores has just recently completed her junior year at the University of Wyoming working towards a degree in Chemical Engineering.  Along with her family, Reina resides from Mexico but has lived in Cheyenne her whole life.  She is currently a member of the Wyo Gold club, Wyoming Swing Club, and the Cowboy Country Swing Club at the University of Wyoming.  While at home in Cheyenne, she spends her time volunteering for the VFW Post 1881 Sunday breakfast and the Laramie County Library.  In her free time Reina enjoys playing a variety of different sports and also is interested in photography.  After graduating, Reina hopes to get a job as an engineer at HollyFrontier Refining or at Dyno Nobel.

Genice Frescas is a Cheyenne native, and will be a junior at UW this fall, majoring in social work.  Two years ago, she went to Uganda; there, at one of their schools, Genice had the opportunity to work with orphaned, abused, and underprivileged children, and it became her drive to find a future career involving in-need children, be it in foster care, adoptions, or general child welfare.  Genice loved taking part in international mission work, and it changed her life, so she hopes to do more of it in the future.  She is a lifelong Denver Broncos fan, an art nerd, and also loves being outdoors, reading, baking, and being active.  She has three older brothers and the “two most amazing parents a person could ask for.”  Genice plans on following in her dad’s footsteps by getting her Bachelor’s degree.

Carlos Garcia is a Cheyenne East High School graduate.  CJ has been involved in voluntary activities with his favorite being volunteering at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center; helping our veterans has been very rewarding to him. Additionally, CJ enjoys playing competitive baseball during the summer months.  CJ is finishing his freshman year at Laramie County Community College majoring in Pre-Pharmacy; he will attend LCCC for his sophomore year.  After completion of 2 years at LCCC, CJ's goal is to be accepted into the Pharmacy School at the University of Wyoming and become a Clinical Pharmacist after completing the 4 year doctorate program.  CJ takes pride in his academic success and enjoys helping others meet their goals by assisting fellow students, athletes and friends any way he can.

Melinda Gardner has lived in Cheyenne most of her life. Throughout high school, her favorite thing to do was compete in Debate.  She was also a member of the East High School band and served as a section leader her senior year.  Melinda loves baseball, her dogs, living in Wyoming, but most of all, her family.

Annissa Ibarra is 20 years old and currently attending Laramie County Community College and the University of Wyoming.  She is enrolled in the Nursing program at Laramie County Community College and is continuing for a higher education through the University of Wyoming.  She plans to get her BSN for nursing and ultimately become a Nurse Practitioner. She also works at LCCC as a work study for the financial aid office.  She is married to Ernesto Ibarra. With the encouragement of her husband and her family, she believes any goal is achievable.  She strongly values goals and dreams. One of her favorite quotes is from the late Walt Disney, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.”

Dixon Maggard Dixon is the son of Phil Maggard and Lisa Simmons and has three brothers. Dixon has played baseball his whole life and is now competing at the collegiate level on the baseball field at St. Ambrose University. He is on track pursuing his career goal of becoming an ophthalmologist with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He will be traveling to Nigeria over Thanksgiving break of 2015 where he will assist ophthalmologists in performing cataract surgeries.

Carly Ortiz has been in band for 9 years and, during these years, she has been a part of honors band for 2 years as well as participating in multiple district and city honor bands. In addition to band, Carly has participated in cheerleading with Cheyenne Central High School for 2 years, and swimming and diving for 1 year. One of Carly’s non-competitive extra-curricular activities is Safe School Ambassadors, of which she has been a member for 4 years.  She also has been an active member in her church and has altar served at St. Mary's Church for 10 years. In college, Carly plans to pursue a degree in Elementary Education because she believes, “Education is the best step you can take in this journey called life.”

Trevon Roccaforte is currently a senior at Cheyenne East High School. He is active in Speech, Debate, DECA, and International Bachelorette. Trevon is a four time State Champion in DECA, a four year National Qualifier in DECA and a two year National Qualifier in Speech.  Trevon plans to attend Casper College next year where he will continue to compete in Speech and Debate and major in Interpersonal Communications.

Jeffrey Salinas is currently a senior at Central High School and is graduating this year.  He has lived in Cheyenne for 7 years and is originally from Ft. Myers, Florida.  Jeff participates in track where he is a 6-time letter recipient and State Champion.  He plans to attend Hastings College where he will study Exercise Science and run track and field. At Hastings College in Nebraska he he plans on working towards earning his Master’s Degree and become a physical therapist.

Amada Simental Amada plans on attending the University of Wyoming and she will major in Finance.  She would like to study abroad in Latin America or Europe.  Amada is thankful and excited for what lies ahead. And she is especially thankful for the support of her parents and friends.

Jamie Spradlin is a junior currently attending the University of Wyoming. She is majoring in Elementary Education. She is working for the Laramie County School District #1 as a substitute teacher. She wants to make a difference in her student’s lives. She is going to student teach in Cheyenne and plans to continue her career in Cheyenne as well.

Madison Stumpf is a Central High graduate and is currently attending Bellevue University on a soccer scholarship. She is studying business administration in hopes of owning her own business one day. Madison would like to thank her parents for always pushing her to do her best and for helping her become the person she is today.

Isaiah Tafoya is a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming and has lived here all his life.  He is a graduate of South High School.  Isaiah has been boxing for 9 years and really enjoys the sport of boxing.  He lives at home with his parents and 9-year old sister.  Isaiah grew up on the south side of Cheyenne and is well known in that community for his boxing.  After graduation, Isaiah plans to attend Laramie County Community College to study Exercise Science; eventually earning a Bachelor’s to become a Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Preston Thurin is a senior at Pine Bluffs High School.  He is active in football, basketball, track, Future Farmers of America, PBHS Student Council and 4-H.  Preston will be attending Laramie County Community College majoring in Physical/Health Education. Preston would like to teach school in a rural area where he can make a difference in kids’ lives. He would also like to remain in the area so he can continue to help on the family farm in the summers.

Lincoln Trujillo loves baseball and will be going to Western Nebraska Community College on a baseball scholarship.  Lincoln plans to study either Kinesiology or Engineering.  He hopes to become a physical therapist in the future.  He would also like to progress to playing Division One Baseball.

Brooke White plans to engage in International Studies with a Political Science major.  She lived in Australia for a year and says that experience was very enlightening however being away from home for a year was very different and difficult. Brooke’s role models are her aunt and mom, saying “they are so influential and seeing them in such powerful roles is encouraging”.   Brooke would eventually like to be working in Washington D.C. working politics; she loves Capitol Hill.  However, she is not ready to settle down yet, she wants to go out and see the world first and perhaps do a junior exchange to Belgium.

Austen Williamson is double majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Management at the University of Wyoming. As a freshman, he has been very active in his community by being voted in as President of McIntyre Hall, becoming an ASUW Freshman Senator and a founding father of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and being voted in as Housing Manager.  Austen is a hard worker and takes pride in everything he does.  He constantly challenges himself to go above and beyond all expectations.  He says, “By doing this, I can improve myself as well as the community around me.”  Austen plans to keep up the work and continue to build on his accomplishments.

Jodeci Ybarra is a senior at Central High School and she will be graduating with a 3.71 GPA in June.  She has been accepted into over 5 colleges, but she has chosen to attend Chadron State College in the Fall. There, she will study Health Sciences and Family and Consumer Sciences. She considers herself to be determined, dedicated, and has high goals that will be met no matter what it takes. She wants to be a role model for younger generations around her to look up to and admire. With everything she has planned to do with her post-secondary education, she knows it will be achieved with the support and love of her family.

2014 Key Note Luncheon Speaker

Dion Custis, Criminal Defense Attorney

Dion J. Custis was born in 1968 in Denver, Colorado. He has one older sister. Both of his parents were brought up in the highest crime area in Denver at the time. They were very poor Hispanics and neither one of them graduated from high school. Living in Spanish speaking households, his mother had 7 siblings and his father had 6. Dion's grandparents all spoke Spanish as their first language; he was very close to them. His great-grand parents could not speak English at all.

Dion grew up in North Denver which was predominantly Hispanic. His parents divorced when he was 8-years old and he was raised by his mother. She worked as a factory worker making minimum wage. His father was not in picture a whole lot and he remembers moving 9 times before the 7th grade. He attended Englewood high school and played soccer where he earned All-State, All Conference, and MVP.

Dion was the first member of his family to graduate from High School, including his extended family. The main reason he went to college was to play soccer, and he also played soccer for Metro State in Denver. His parents had no money to help with college, so he worked two jobs while playing soccer and attending school. He made the decision to go to law school and after being a criminal justice major for about 2 years, and then he received a scholarship to attend college in Wyoming through the CLEO (Council on Legal Education Opportunity). This program was designed mainly to help minorities get into higher education. He had to pass a summer bridge course in New Mexico taking law school type classes.

Dion also taught at CLEO the following summer in Arizona and graduated at the top 1/3 of his class. He then interned for Attorney General's office and worked in law firm in Cody. He competed in several trial practice competitions and he started the first Hispanic Student Association.

Danielle Aldana is a freshman currently attending Dodge City Community College, in Dodge City Kansas.  She is majoring in Education.  One of her ultimate long term goals was to earn an athletic scholarship to play fast pitch softball and specialize in literacy at the secondary level.  After graduation in 2015, she plans to attend a University in either Arizona or Texas and continue on a softball scholarship.  This is Danielle’s 2nd year of being a HOPE Scholarship recipient. 

Branden Boerkircher is a senior at East High School.  He plans to attend the University of Wyoming majoring in Pharmacology.  Branden understands what it takes to make a difference in someone’s life and shows that by caring for his 8-year brother after school and helps him in his studies while his mother is at work.  Coming from a family of teachers, nurses, and business managers, he follows in his mother’s footsteps in the medical field.  She is a full-time nurse raising two young men.  His role model is his Uncle Vialquin Valdez, a WWII veteran much-decorated for valor and patriotism. 

Millie Chavarria is a freshman attending Laramie County Community College.  She is majoring in Biology and Pre-pharmacy.  Millie is the first to pursue a higher education.  Her family is most important, they have been what keeps her going and inspires her when she has no hope left.  Millie wishes to become a successful pharmacist. 

Nicolas Chavez is a senior at TC Williams High School in Virginia.  His mother is stationed there at the time, however, he plans to return to Wyoming to attend UW in Laramie and major in Microbiology.  Nicolas says his family is a huge factor in pushing him to succeed.  They are his biggest supporters and critics, keeping him honest, humble and hardworking. 

Richard Cruz is a junior currently attending the University of Wyoming.  He is majoring in Criminal Justice to become a Secret Service Federal Agent.  With many things in his life to push him to succeed, all of which he has a high and equal value to, one of the things is his family.  Even though he knows they are already proud of him because of the accomplishments he has achieved over the years, such as serving in the National Guard, spending a tour in Afghanistan, and being accomplished in soccer, baseball, golf, and football in both high school and college, he still always wants to make them even more proud. 

Alicia Estorga is a junior currently attending the University of Wyoming.  She is majoring in Social Work and Spanish.  She is inspired to do well in school to set the example for her brother who is 2-1/2 years younger than her.  With her example, he has opened his eyes and set his goals to attend college as well, following in his sister’s footsteps.  This is her 2nd year as a HOPE Scholarship recipient and she has also been nominated for the Hispanic National Honors Society.

Anthony Farmer is a freshman maintaining a 4.0 GPA at the University of Wyoming with a major in Economics.  Anthony wishes to have a positive impact on the society that has allowed him such vast levels of prosperity and joy.  What pushes him is the need to help others and to be a catalyst towards a mutually beneficial community of achievers.  Anthony says his Hispanic heritage has distinguished him and helped him develop a proud sense of identity and character.

Reina Flores is a sophomore currently attending the University of Wyoming.  She is majoring in Chemical Engineering and would like to eventually work in a plant here in Wyoming as a Chemical engineer.  Reina feels it is important to make others realize that no matter what our backgrounds may be, our voice is important and we are just as capable of reaching our goals as anyone else.  She believes that coming together as a community to fight for our goals can set a good example for future generations to come.

Rudy Flores is a sophomore currently attending the University of Wyoming.  He is majoring in Business Administration.  Rudy is inspired by his parents who he says are the hardest working people he has ever met.  They would do anything to give their children a better life.  Born in Mexico in 1993 and after a year coming to America, Rudy and his family achieved citizenship through the diligence of his father in the early 2000’s.  Now, being in college and maintaining two jobs in Cheyenne, Rudy says it’s simple to understand that his parents are the ultimate contributors to his incredible work ethic.

Carlos Garcia is a senior at East High School.  He plans to attend Laramie County Community College, majoring in Pre-Pharmacy and eventually attending the Universityof Wyoming School of Pharmacy.  Through his recent voluntary activities at the Cheyenne Veterans Administration Medical Center Pharmacy, he has appreciated the joy he has given to people by simply just being present for them. 

Martin Garcia is a sophomore currently attending Laramie County Community College.  He is majoring in Radiography.  Martin is married with a 3-year old daughter.  After separating honorably from the US Air Force, he decided to remain in Cheyenne and finish his degree so he can become a Radiation Therapist.  Martin says we must continue to educate ourselves in order to give our kids a better opportunity.

Elisia Konute is a junior at Laramie County Community College studying pre-nursing.  She plans to continue her education at the University of Wyoming.  What pushes Elisia to succeed is to prove she can be successful in the nursing program after being told that she wouldn’t due to her dyslexia, which was only diagnosed last year.  However, Elisia is moving forward in her pursuit to be an RN and is currently working as a CNA at one of our local nursing homes. 

Cassidy Lebsack is a senior at Central High School and plans to attend college in Ft. Collins, Colorado or Laramie, Wyoming.  She wants to major in English and build towards working in non-profit management to create her own charity in the future.  She would like to be a Missionary and travel the world.  Cassidy looks up to her grandmother who worked side-by-side with the men in the fields to provide for her brothers.  Their mother died giving birth and she was left to raise her brothers.  Cassidy says her family members are some of the strongest people she knows because they took bad situations and turned them around.

Dixon Maggard is a freshman currently attending New Mexico State University, majoring in Kinesiology.  Dixon is in pursuit of an optometry career with a desire of continued involvement in collegiate baseball.  He is pitching for the Aggies in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  Dixon is very excited about his major and firm on what he wants to do with his life.  In 5-10 years, he sees himself finishing up his medical education and to manage his own office by 35 years of age.

Domonique Martinez is a junior at Laramie County Community College.  He is majoring in Petroleum Engineering and plans to attend the University of Wyoming this coming fall.  This is his 3rd year of receiving the HOPE Scholarship.  The thing that drives Domonique to succeed is the fact that he has the chance to help friends and family and generations to come.

Austin Morgan is a senior at East High School.  He is undecided on which college to attend, with Georgetown University in Washington DC or University of Wyoming, however wherever he decides to go, he will be majoring in Law – Undergraduate in Business with International Business/Relations.  Austin’s family is the driving force behind his success, starting with the example his mother set forth by working with terminally ill children and going to school full time.  This has inspired him to be involved in IB classes and Speech and Debate Team.  Following his mother’s example, he works hard in order to achieve success.

Emilio Salas is a senior at South High School.  He is planning to attend the University of Wyoming and majoring in Anthropology with a minor in Military Science.  With his mother quitting her job to stay home and raise her children and then his father taking on 2 jobs to make up the income difference, Emilio has been inspired to work hard and push himself to succeed.  He looks forward to attending college and working towards a military career.

Ryan Sanchez is a senior at Central High School.  He plans to attend Laramie County Community College and major in Kinesiology.  He wants to be involved in sports medicine as a physical therapist or personal trainer.  He currently has a job with the school district for property maintenance.  Ryan believes that “what doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger”, reminding himself that he needs to push him and nothing is ever out of reach.  He can do anything that he sets his mind to, and while doing so, will become a stronger person mentally and physically.

Kylie Shafer is a senior at East High School.  She plans to attend Sheridan College and major in Biology.  Living with a bone disease herself, she eventually wants to go to Utah and work at Shriners to help people in the way she has been helped through physical therapy.  Kylie will be the first to obtain a college degree and wants to set the example for her siblings.  Her parents are her greatest motivation in her life, doing their best to give her what they could and encouraging her to do better for herself by seeking a higher education.

Madison Stumpf is a senior at Central High School.  She plans to major in Business.  She would like to attend either the University of Wyoming or Belleview University in Nebraska, if accepted.  Madison wants to be successful, not only for herself, but for others as well.  She wants to be able to stand tall and be an example of the Hispanic culture, letting people know that inside we are all the same.

Carlos Vasquez is a senior at East High School.  He plans to attend Young Americans College of the Performing Arts in Corona, California, majoring in performing arts.   He has been involved in competitive swimming for his entire high school years.  The feeling of pride that fills his heart after winning a race or getting an “A” on a test makes him walk a little taller.  This is what he uses to drive himself and ensure success.  Carlos says success is “happiness” and as long as he is happy in what he is doing, he will feel successful. 

Kaitlyn Vite is a senior at East High School.  She plans to attend the University of Wyoming and major in Kinesiology and Health.  Kaitlyn will be the first of her family to attend college and one of her main motivations for success is her family.   Even if it is completing a small task or challenge, she wants to be able to say that she completed them with all her efforts and did her best work.

Brooke White is a senior at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia.  She is staying with her aunt who is currently stationed there.  She plans to return to Wyoming and attend UW, majoring in International Studies.  Brooke has always been her worst critic and constantly pushes herself to improve in all aspects of life.  She was raised to believe that with determination and hard work, she can do or be anything she chooses.  She holds herself accountable for her own actions because her family depends on her.  She wants to be a positive role model for her tight-knit extended family, showing them that success is possible.

Austen Williamson is a senior at Central High School.  He plans on going to college in Madison, Wisconsin, dual-majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Entrepreneurship.  Experiencing many hardships himself, he is most proud of his grandpa, Don Damian, who was a hardworking self-made man, who started from nothing working on a ranch and eventually rising to owning thousands of acres and cattle of his own in the Mora Valley with the help and support of the Hispanic community.  Austen recalls many great memories on his grandpa’s ranch and sees it as a reminder that great things can be accomplished with the support of a strong community.  Austin currently manages his own business, AW Waterscapes, and has built 3 waterfalls on his own.

2013 Key Note Luncheon Speaker

Cadet Second Class Lindsay M. Plasencio

Cadet Lindsay M. Plasencio is from Toledo, Ohio.  She graduated from St. Ursula Academy in 2006.  She is a prior enlisted Supply troop and was stationed at the 180th Fighter Wing in Toledo, Ohio.  Before coming to the Air Force Academy, she attended The Ohio State University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Aviation Management.  She is currently in her third year at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado.  Cadet Plasencio is a Legal Studies major under the Department of Law.  In this area of study, she learns about various legal concepts and, specifically, how they apply in the military.  She has completed various legal studies courses including Legal Research, Writing, and Advocacy; Law for Air Force Officers; Criminal Law and Cyber Law.  Currently, she is taking Tort Law, Constitutional Law and International Law.

Cadet Plasencio has had many leadership experiences while at the Air Force Academy, with her most rewarding experience being the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) program.  In this program, she worked with the Military Training Instructors (MTIs) at Lackland AFB and helped train and mentor over 200 trainees going through basic training during the summer of 2012.  This summer, she will be participating in this program again as a cadet in charge.  She will be mentoring and supervising cadets in the class below her while they work with the MTIs.

Cadet Plasencio also studies Spanish at the Academy and is minoring in the language. She is an active member in the Hispanic Heritage Club (HHC). She has held the position of Secretary and Social Coordinator. Currently she holds the position of Vice President. Cadet Plasencio hopes to either become a pilot or a contracting officer upon her graduation and commissioning in May 2014.

Genice Frescas is a senior at Central High School and is planning on attending Laramie County Community College.  Genice is active in community service.

Sierra Galicia is a senior at East High School and is planning on attending the University of Wyoming majoring in Engineering to become a Biomedical Engineer.  Sierra is active in competitive softball and community service.

Martin Garcia served in the U.S. Air Force and after being honorably discharged, Martin is now pursuing a Radiological Technician certificate. 

Elisia Kohute is a sophomore at Laramie County Community College majoring in Nursing.  Elisia is active in the dance group “Flores de Colores”.

David Mendoza is a senior at East High School and is planning on attending the University of Wyoming majoring in Wildlife Management. 

Damon Pineda is a sophomore at Laramie County Community College majoring in Wind Technology.  Damon is active in the Wind Smith Club.

Reina Flores is currently a senior at Central High School and is planning on attending the University of Wyoming majoring in Chemical Engineering.  Reina enjoys basketball and music.

Chelsey Lynch is currently a senior at the University of Wyoming majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood Development.  Chelsey has been active in cheerleading and enjoys attending cultural events.

Deacon Maggard is currently a junior at the University of Wyoming majoring in Architectural Engineering.  Deacon is a member of Engineers Without Borders.

Domonique Martinez is currently a freshman at Laramie County Community College and plans to attend the University of Wyoming majoring in Pharmacy.  Domonique is a volunteer with DDM Contractors and has worked with Habitat for Humanity.

Marcela Means is currently a freshman at the University of Wyoming majoring in Biology.  Marcela is a mentee with the Multicultural Student Leadership Initiative.

Alexandra Mullikin is currently a freshman attending Laramie County Community College majoring in Psychology.  Alexandra works at the Frontier Six Theatre in addition to attending college full time.

Damon Pineda is currently a freshman at Laramie County Community College majoring in Wind Technology with a minor in English.  Damon enjoys baseball, softball and playing pool.

Jose Vasquez is currently a sophomore at  Eastern Wyoming College majoring in Welding Technology.  Jose enjoys bull riding and is a member of Eastern Wyoming Rodeo Team.

Major Patricia Nicole Chavez

Cameron Aris is a senior at Central High School.  He is active in volleyball and National Youth Leaders of America.  Cameron will be attending Missouri Valley College majoring in athletic training.

Paula Bascus is a senior at Triumph High School.  She has been spending her time completing clinical labs for the Certified Nursing Assistant program.  Paula will be attending Laramie County Community College and would like to complete the CNA program and also become a translator.

Alicia Estorga is a senior at Central High School.  She is active in volleyball and Future Business Leaders of America.  Alicia will be attending the University of Wyoming majoring in child development.

Rudy Flores is a senior at Central High School.  He is active in Future Business Leaders of America.  Rudy will be attending the University of Wyoming majoring in accounting.

Ethan Gancze is a senior at East High School.  He is active in basketball and Young Authors.  Ethan will be attending Laramie County Community College majoring in general studies.

Timothy Lara graduated from East High School in 2010 and is currently attending Oklahoma State University.  He is majoring in Kenworth and heavy equipment technology.

Sara Leach graduated from East High School in 2009 and is currently attending University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.  She is majoring in recreation, tourism and hospitality.

Marcela Means is a senior at Central High School.  She is active in soccer, violin and viola and biology science.  She will be attending the University of Wyoming majoring in biology.

Alexis Moralez is a senior at Central High School.  She is active in volleyball and basketball.  Alexis will be attending the University of Wyoming and her major is undecided at this time.

Alexandra Mullikin is a senior at East High School.  She is active in the young author program.  Alexandra will be attending Laramie County Community College majoring in psychology.

Lisa Spradlin graduated from East High School in 2010 and is currently attending the University of Wyoming.  She is majoring in general studies in science.  Lisa is active in the ALAS Club.

Andrew Valdez graduated from East High School in 2007 and is currently attending Laramie County Community College.  He will be attending the University of Wyoming in the fall majoring in civil engineering.

Jose Vasquez graduated from East High School in 2010 and is currently attending Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington majoring in welding.  Jose is active in bull riding.

Joseph Kent Meza

Born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Joseph Meza attended Bain and Goins Elementary, Johnson Jr. High and graduated in 2001 from Cheyenne Central High School.

Joe graduated from Laramie County Community College in 2004 and the University of Wyoming in 2006 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics. He was the first in his family to graduate college, an accomplishment he and his family are very proud of. After graduation, Joe began working for the University of Wyoming and currently is employed in the Telecommunications Division of Information Technology.

Besides working full time at the UW, during his lunch break, Joe attends Computer Science courses in C++ programming. He is taking courses for entry level graduate courses in Mathematics with a long term goal of teaching at the college level.

During his spare time, Joe tutors math to family, friends, and co-workers and currently helps the local Boy Scout District Committee with updating the front page of their website. He also plays on a recreational softball team in Laramie and listens to music.

Jacob Bustos is currently a Junior at the University of Wyoming, majoring in Business Administration. Obtaining a college education has been a dream of Jacob's. He hopes to be able to give back by showing people he is a young Hispanic male that has obtained an education and will offer his experience to his community.

JoanMarie Esquibel is currently a Senior at East High School. She is a former HOPE star recipient. She has maintained a 3.67 GPA. JoanMarie hopes to persue a degree in Education and be able to "make something of herself."

Stephanie Fernandez* is a Senior at Central High School and is a member of FCCLA and CAN. She is active in sports and St. Joseph's Church. Stephanie is a very hard worker, working three jobs during the school while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. She has been a major help to her family and siblings and has come out ahead no matter what obstacles are in her way. She stated that winning this scholarship would be the greatest thing to ever happen in her life.

DeAnne Fresquez is currently a freshman at LCCC. She is majoring in Business Administration. DeAnne is very dedicated to her culture and is a Mexican Folkloric dance instructor. She is a role model for the young children she interacts with in her dance group and to others in the community. She said college is currently the number one thing in her life.

Jose Gamboa is a sophomore at LCCC and is a member of the speech and debate team. He is actively involved on campus and is a member of ALAS, the first hispanic club in the 40 years LCCC has opened its doors. The Mission of ALAS is to: "motivate students and community members in persuing a higher education, to provide an environment for member to develop leadership skills, to create cultural diverse activities and involvement with the community."

Mario Gonzales is currently attending LCCC, majoring in Cisco Networking with a dream to establish a career in computer technology. He is the first in his family to attend college and is proud to be able to set an example to other Latinos that they to can also succeed through higher education.

Sara Leach is currently a senior at East High School. She is a member of the Mexican dance group, "Grupo Folklorio Colonias de Jalisco."" She is also a member of Junior Leadership of Cheyenne, Wyoming Latina Youth Conference Teen Advisor, goblin walk volunteer, and a library volunteer. Sara has been on the honor roll every semester from 2005-2009. She is a 3-year HOPE Star recipient, National Junior Honor Society Member, and was editor and chief of the EHS yearbook committee from 2005 to 2007.

Alyssa Lopez will be entering her Senior year at the Unversity of Wyoming, majoring in Kinesiology. She believes that obtaining a higher education will assist her in becoming a productive member of society and serving the community with her profession.

Daniel Lucero has been recognized on the LCCC Vice President's list, been secretary of Musical Instrumental Club, and is currently the Secretary of ALAS. Daniel believes that education will help him better himself, break barriers and stereotypes that have been placed in front of him.

Deacon Maggard is currently a senior at East High School. He is Student Body President, and Key Clup President, a member of Spanish Club, the IB Program and EHS Marching Band. Deacon has volunteered with Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Comea Shelter, UNICEF, and Magic City. His goal is to be an architectual engineer and to encourage the building of eco-friendly beautiful structures. Deacon says he is ready to learn anything.

Maya Martinez will be attending the University of Wyoming as a Junior, majoring in Social Work. She hopes to return to Cheyenne upon graduation to work in the community that helped her.

Trisha Martinez will be attending the University of Wyoming as a Senior, studying Criminal Justice and Chicano Studies, with the ultimate goal of becoming a criminal defense attorney. Trisha takes pride in being a postive role model to her two sons; teaching them the importance of attending college and becoming productive with the highest ambitions to be the best.

Jesus Mojica is currently attending LCCC. He is involved in church activities and helped the homeless. Jesus feels it is important to be a role model to others and to encourage students of Hispanic descent to persue higher education and encourage them to seek out programs like HOPE to better their futures.

Elizabeth Mondragon will be entering her sophmore year at the University of Wyoming. She is active in the Student Senate, Key Club and Kappa Kappa Gamma. Obtaining a nursing degree is important to Liz as she feels females need to be strong role models.

Brittany Perez* is currently a senior at East High School, a member and secretary of DECA, and a member of Junior Leadership of Cheyenne. She was involved in dance, was the team's captain 2007-2008, and lettered in dance 2005-2008. Brittany has volunteered for a Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser and the Ronald McDonald House. She is loyal, hard-working and knows how to get the job done.

Adrian H. Molina aka Mo Brown

Adrian was born in Rawlins, Wyoming in 1980. He is an artist, educator, and activist.

Adrian graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2003 with B.A.'s in Sociology and Criminal Justice and a Minor in Chicano Studies. He received the Tobin Memorial Award for Outstanding Male Graduate in recognition of academic and leadership achievements and community involvement. He was the founder and director of Students for Progressive Action and has taught high school summer courses for the Daniels Fund, Upward Bound, and Wyoming High School Institute. Adrian then attended law school at UW and received his Juris Doctor in 2006. He is currently a lecturer at the University of Wyoming. Adrian teaches the following courses: Introduction to Chicano Studies, Hip-Hop & American Society, Juvenile Delinquency, and Politics and Judicial Process.

Adrian is independently releasing two music projects this year: Th e Representin (4 Life) EP and Up Before the Sunrise, a full length album. Adrian has also written, and is directing and acting, in a play titled Phantom Discourse: Life, Death, and Chicanism@. Phantom Discourse is about Chicano/Mexican-American identity and the struggle for social justice. It will debut in Laramie in April, 2006 and will then show in various cities in Wyoming and Colorado. Adrian is also actively seeking an agent and publisher for his book, titled Up Before the Sunrise: Refl ections on Struggle
