Author Denise Vega

Denise Vega was born in Seattle, WA, but has lived most of her life in and around the Denver, CO area. She is an author, writing coach, and "creative cheerleader," exploring and supporting the many ways we pursue our dreams both through her books and in her interactions with the writers she works with in class and one-on-one. Her teen novel, Rock On, follows high school guitarist and singer Orion Taylor who must overcome his own fears and self-doubt to pursue what he wants. Denise has a B.A. in Film & Television from UCLA and a Masters in Education from Harvard University. She is on faculty at Lighthouse Writers Workshop and is a Young Adult Mentor for the Regis University MFA in Creative Writing Program where she loves to support and encourage writers of all kinds.

One of her favorite family experiences was visiting relatives in El Cercado, a small town south of Monterrey, Mexico with her dad, aunt and uncle years ago. Even though she doesn't speak Spanish and few of them spoke English, everyone managed to communicate with each other. She enjoyed walking the plaza and seeing how many "Vegas" were around!
